Description

Mahogany Brass bound campaign Writing Boxwith secret compartments and drawers, it has flush fitting carry handles, brass escutcheon and initial plate with the letter J&M.

The interior features a green baize writing surface. Unlocking and lifting the bottom half of the surface reveals a large storage area with the back of the surface being cross banded with replacement ribbons for holding letters and cards. There is also a separate compartment which has a release button disguised as an escutcheon.

The top half of the writing surface lifts to reveal further storage space with a hidden compartment. This can be accessed by sliding the left side divider towards the center of the box. Then the base can be pushed towards the front of the box whilst pressing down on the front edge, causing the rear to lift and enabling the cover to be removed, once this is opened you will see a slight cut in the wooden side again pressing this in the sprung cover will spring forward revealing a hidden drawer.

The side of this campaign writing box has a drawer with flush fitting handle which is constructed with beautifully dovetailed joints, It has a catch which prevents the drawer from being opened while the box is in the closed or locked position.

This fantastic military writing box has lovely untouched patination, comes with the patented “Thompson” three pronged lock which is stamped several times, has its original key and replaced internal key for the writing surface and both locks and keys are in good working order. This box also comes with its original inkwells, one has slight damage which can be seen in the pictures.
