Featuring goncalo alves crossbanding and boxwood edging, this Antique Harewood Tea Caddy is oval in shape. A single floating lid with a brass handle graces this charming 18th-century Oval Tea Caddy, which is inlaid with an Adam-style urn and husk swags, and the top has an oval patera inlaid and engraved with symmetrical entwined leaves. In addition to retaining most of its original lining, this tea caddy includes a fully working lock and a tasselled key.

Harewood is a type of sycamore maple which has been stained and treated to take the natural cream colour to a rich brown.

Goncalo Alves (aka Tigerwood) is a hardwood with a dramatic, contrasting colour scheme, that some compare to rosewood. While the sapwood is very light in color, the heartwood is a sombre brown with dark streaks that give it a unique look. The wood’s colour deepens with exposure and age and even the plainer-looking wood has a natural lustre.

Boxwood can be found in Europe, Northwest Africa and Southwest Asia. It is a light cream that turns darker to brown when exposed to light. The trees are very small, which is suited to smaller projects like edging or inlay instead of veneers.

Georgian era was a period in British history dating from 1714-1837, the Georgian era after the Hanoverian kings George I, George II, George III and George IV.
