Fully Partitioned Jewellery Tray
From our Jewellery Boxes collection, we are delighted to offer this Rosewood Inlaid Jewellery Box. The Jewellery Box of slim rectangular form veneered in Rosewood is beautifully decorated to the exterior of the Box with intricate brass stringing accenting individual mother of pearl floral cartouches throughout the front and lid. The exterior of the Jewellery Box is finished with a central bordered vacant mother of pearl initial plaque to the lid. When opened the box reveals a plush cushioned velvet lining with a removable top tray housing multiple partitions and two rows of ring/cufflink cushions. The top tray can be removed via the two material tabs either side to access further storage below with larger partition for further jewellery and watches. The Jewellery Box dates to the early Victorian period during the Reign of Queen Victoria circa 1840.
The Jewellery Box comes complete with working lock & key.
Rosewood has many variations. Indian Rosewood, also known as Bombay Rosewood or Bombay Blackwood, is found in India and Indonesia. It is highly valued for its striking appearance with colours ranging from a medium-brown to dark red-brown with even darker grain lines. Madagascan Rosewood, found in Madagascar is a pink-brown colour with a darker almost purple grain.
Mother of Pearl is an organic-inorganic composite material produced by some molluscs as an inner shell layer. It is the same material that natural pearls are made from and is desirable due to its strong and resilient makeup along with its beautiful iridescent shimmer.
Victorian, an era of British History corresponding approximately with the reign of Queen Victoria from the 20th of June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901 however, there are arguments stating that the Victorian era is actually from 1820 until 1914 proceeded by Georgian era and followed by the Edwardian era.
