Antique writing box veneered in rich figured Rosewood with symmetrical brass stringing and Mother of Pearl and Abalone inlay on the top and front. The top features a vacant mother of pearl initial plate framed with engraved brass and inset with Abalone.

Lifting the lid of this pretty victorian writing box reveals a red leather and gold-tooled writing slope. The lower half lifts to reveal a storage area underneath with a cross ribbon backing for holding stationery such as letters and calling cards. The top half of the writing slope also lifts to reveal a larger storage area and a secret compartment! Pulling the divider on the left-hand side of the inkwell above the writing slope will cause a false wall to spring forward revealing two hidden drawers.

This writing box comes with a fully working lock and a tasselled key. The key must be turned clockwise to unlock.
