Description
Beautiful Russian malachite box.
Made of beautiful solid malachite with silver feet and lesser state emblem of the Russian empire. The silver is by Erik August Kollin (1836 – 1901). A Finish born silversmith who worked from 1858 to 1886. Kollin was the head jeweller for the famous Russian jewellery firm Faberge from 1872 to 1886. It is marked with an 84 zolotnik which means .875 pure silver.
Malachite gets its name from the Greek word “Mallache”, which means “Green”.
