Hallmarked Vickery London

From our Silver collection, we are thrilled to offer this Sterling Silver Photo Frame Clock. The Frame cast in Sterling Silver of rectangular shape with a rounded top. The rear of the frame fitted with a removable back allowing the owner to replace the photo and also adjust or remove the fitted pocket watch. The pocket watch is fitted with a white enamel dial with black roman numerals and a subsidiary dial for seconds. The frame is hallmarked Sterling Silver, John Collard Vickery, London and is dated 1913.

John Collard Vickery was founded by John Collard Vickery and Arthur Thomas Hobbes after they bought out William Griggs a stationer and bookseller with premises on Regent Street in London in 1890. They pair soon after expanded their stock to include Gold and Silver objects, jewellery and dressing cases. The partnership with Hobbs was dissolved in 1891 and Vickery continued to conduct business as JC Vickery. Vickery expanded the Regent Street store in 1900 and throughout his career he also obtained a large number of Royal Warrants including the King and Queen of England (Edward VII and Alexandra), the King of Portugal, Spain, Sweden, both the King and Queen of Denmark, the Queen of Norway and the Prince and Princess of Schleswig Holstein. The firm ran into financial difficulties and went into administration in 1930, not long after John Collard Vickery died in the same year and the firm was taken over by James Walker Ltd.

Sterling Silver is an alloy composed by weight of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness (parts per thousand) of 925.
