With Two Drawers

From our Jewellery Box collection, we are thrilled to offer this Walnut Glazed Jewellery Box. The Jewellery Box of petit rectangular form on a stepped plinth base made from Walnut. To the front of the Jewellery Box a bevelled glass panel allows the user to see the brass handled drawers within. To the top of the domed lid a flush mounted carry handle is fitted in a stylised cartouche brass plate. The lid of the Jewellery Box lifts to reveal the yellow velvet interior and removeable top tray with beige silk water paper. Lifting the lid allows access to the front panel which drops down to access the two drawers, one with a partition for storage and the other with a larger storage compartment. The Jewellery Box dates to the late 19th century during the Victorian Era Circa 1890.

Walnut comes in many varieties from America to Europe. American Walnut is often a warm yellow-brown to purple-brown colour with a straight grain. European Walnut tends to vary greatly from tree to tree in terms of colour and pattern. From light grey-brown to dark brown with dark grain and irregular markings. Walnut trees often develop large burr growths which when veneered show beautiful rich coloured swirls.

Victorian, an era of British History corresponding approximately with the reign of Queen Victoria from the 20th of June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901 however, there are arguments stating that the Victorian era is actually from 1820 until 1914 proceeded by Georgian era and followed by the Edwardian era.
