Description
This charming Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock is in a highly polished, luxurious Gold-plated finish, with glazed panels.
Atmos clocks have renowned atmospheric movement meaning, this clock requires no winding. This particular clock is driven by a mainspring, wound by bellows containing ethyl chloride, which vaporizes and condenses, based on changes in temperature. The motion of the bellows is enough to wind the mainspring; a change of temperature of just 1 degree is enough for the clock to run for 4 days!
The clock stands on three adjustable feet to ensure the mechanism inside remains level, it is aided by a small spirit level behind the front panel.
Behind the white clock face, sits its amazing engineered clock mechanisms, including the jewels, and visible “Jaeger-LeCoultre” markings. The serial number on the top of the mechanism reads 679398.
With this unique Atmos Clock, you will receive the original box and instruction manual.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos Clock
A Masterpiece of Horological Engineering
At Mark Goodger Antiques, we are proud to offer a selection of fine Atmos clocks by Jaeger-LeCoultre—celebrated worldwide for their ingenuity, elegance, and enduring value.
About the Atmos Clock
Invented in 1928 by Jean-Léon Reutter and refined by Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Atmos is unlike any other mechanical clock. It is powered by natural changes in temperature and air pressure, needing neither winding nor electricity. A sealed capsule filled with ethyl chloride gas expands and contracts with temperature fluctuations, gently winding the mainspring and keeping time with remarkable precision.
