Description
Antique Vanity box veneered in beautifully figured walnut with brass quadrant edging. With a vacant brass initial plate and brass escutcheon. Lifting the lid of this vanity box reveals the fully fitted interior with ten glass jars with sterling silver lids by London Silversmiths Frederic Purnell dated 1876. Each lid is beautifully engraved with vacant initial roundel. The jars surround a removable tool pad which is fitted with tweezers, a knife, scissors, pricker, pencil (marked “Patent G Riddle London”).
The underside of the lid has a removable mirror that is reversible and velvet backing. Removing it reveals a hidden leather letter compartment.
On the back edge of the open silver vanity box, there is a brass button between two hinges. When pressed a hidden jewellery drawer at the front of the box will spring open. The jewellery drawer has a leather protector removing this reveals a compartment lined to hold rings, earrings or cufflinks.
This walnut silver vanity box comes with a fully working Bramah Lock and a tasselled key.
