Description

Leather bound writing boxby W & J Milne, Edinburgh.
The gorgeous mottled leather exterior is decorated with fine gold tooling and features ornate gilt brass carry handle and escutcheon.

The interior features a vibrant blue velvet and leather paper lining which is also decorated with fine gold tooling, along with ornate engraved gilt hinges and lock.
The writing surface can be lifted to reveal storage space underneath with cross-banded ribbon for holding letters.

The back half of the box is hinged allowing it to be lifted to reveal more storage space, and several compartments for holding envelopes, scissors, letter opener and blotter book. All the stationery visible along with its fitting such as inkwells, letter openers & scissors are all contemporary with the fabulous writing slope.

There is a makers mark in the tooling which reads:
W. & J. MILNE. Makers. 126 Princess St. Edinburgh This writing box comes with a fully working snap shut lock and tasselled key.
