Tiffany & Co is an American luxury Jewellery and Speciality retailer based in New York City. Founded in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany who opened it as a store for luxury goods. Throughout the years of their operation, Tiffany has also supplied the Union Army with weapons, flags and surgical implements in the 1840's and even developed a Medal of Honor for the US navy which was known as the 'Tiffany Cross'.

In 1876 Tiffany was the first U.S company to win an award for excellence for silverware at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. Shortly after Tiffany entered what is known as their Gilded Age when they won the Gold medal for jewellery and the grand prize for silverware at the Paris Exposition. To further their reputation they purchased part of the French Crown Jewels at auction and also purchased the worlds largest yellow diamond which became known as the 'Tiffany Diamond'. These purchases increased publicity and cemented the brands associated with high-end diamonds.
