Magnificent antique tortoiseshell stationery box, attributed to renowned maker William Comyns. This exquisite piece is of the highest quality and almost like the day, it was made. The beautiful curved shaped front has applied solid silver rope twisted surround, which also runs around the shaped bracket feet. This rope twisted applied silver frames its exquisitely delicate fine symmetrical design, using engraved silver & gold pique depicting two turtle gold doves resting on silver branches holding a floral garland underneath a gold pagoda-shaped cage, and what appears to be a fountain design of yet more silver flowering plants and gold ears of corn.

The sides and back of this spectacular William Comyns box are covered with Morrocan leather. The interior has its original lining with six divided compartments for storing letters and stationery, each lined with vibrant watered silk.

This exquisite tortoiseshell stationery box comes with a fully working lock stamped H & C L and a tasselled key.
