The featured piece is a charming Antique Writing Box made from Kingwood.

Featuring brass edging, ornate brass inlays, flush-fitting handles in the campaign style, and enclosed secret drawers, this box is very attractive.

This kingwood writing box is decorated on the front and top with brass dots and curved six-sided stars that are framed by bold stringing. Embossed on the top are the letters “C.R.” and a crown on an engraved initial plate. A flush brass handle can be found on each side of the box.

Upon lifting the lid, you will see a black leather writing surface that is adorned with gold tooling. Under the lower half, there is a storage space with a cross ribbon backing that is held in place by a sliding brass tab.

Unlike the lower half, the upper half is lockable and features a similar ribbon backing as well as storage space and an access door to the secret compartment. Removing the right-hand inkwell from the box, and pressing it on the bottom right-hand corner of its compartment will cause a false wall to spring up inside the upper storage space. Behind them are two small drawers with turned-bone handles.
