With Brass Stringing and Vacant Initial Plaque

From our Jewellery Box collection, we are delighted to offer this Victorian Calamander Jewellery Box. The Jewellery Box of rectangular form with quadrant brass edging, veneered in exotic Calamander with a rectangular brass vacant initial plaque and brass stringing. The inside the Jewellery box is lined with a steel blue cushioned velvet and matching silk water paper. A removeable partitioned tray sits in the top of the jewellery box containing three watch compartments and twin cufflink storage strips. An extra storage compartment is contained below the removeable tray. The Jewellery Box dates to the early 19^th century during the Georgian period circa 1830. Rubbed makers mark to the rear centre of the inside of the box.

The Jewellery Box comes complete with working lock and tasselled key.

Calamander is a valuable wood found in India, Sri Lanka and South East Asia. It has a contrasting hazel-brown colour with black grain. It is a dense, heavy wood that is so popular it has been logged to extinction over the last few hundred years.
