Complete with Sewing Accompaniments

From our Sewing Boxes collection, we are thrilled to offer this stunning Coromandel Sewing box with beautiful Abalone shell scenes. The box of rectangular shape veneered in Coromandel with delicate brass stringing and shield shaped escutcheon. To the front of the box, a fully inlaid abalone shell scene features a dog and figure with a central sword amongst foliage and rockery after being traded for the holy grail. A second larger scene features to the lid of the box with two Knights Templar figures one mounted upon a horse approaching a figure making an offering of the holy grail with a dog laid recumbent by his side and the second with a shield and lance glaring at the dog to his right hand side. The figures are set within two trees upon a rocky outcrop with foliage and a bird flying above. Both scenes bordered by decorative brass stringing and abalone shells with scrolling motifs. When opened the interior features a fully fitted sewing kit with mother of pearl handled tools. The gold tooled inner lid features a central silk ruched lining with a mother of pearl latched interior which folds down to reveal storage for letters or documents. The the removable tray features compartments bordered by mother of pearl beads. The tray is filled with mother of pearl thread spools, silver thimbles, scissors and multiple other tools. We firmly attribute the box to Liverpool firm Hausburg due to the similarities of other boxes in our collection, the wood used and the quality of the box overall. The box dates to the early Victorian period and the middle of the 19th century circa 1840.

The Sewing Box comes complete with working lock and key.
