George III Circa 1790

From our Tea Caddy collection, we are delighted to offer this Original Hand-Painted Georgian Tea Caddy. The Tea Caddy of rectangular form made from Sycamore with emphasised canted corners extensively decorated with hand-painted panels featuring flourishing flowers with a black background framed by multiple shells and coral to every panel. Finishing the exterior of the box are two original Sheffield plate small loop handles and a circular escutcheon. When opened, the Tea Caddy reveals twin tea caddy lids painted with blossoming flowers and surmounted by turned bone handles with the tea caddy compartments having traces of the original silver foil lining. To the center, a glass sugar bowl is fitted snugly within its housing with the front of the box featuring one of the earliest Bramah locks we have ever had in a box which is stamped ‘J. Bramah’. The inside of the lid is also extensively decorated with a matching pattern to the exterior and the inside of the box is finished with a Boxwood lining. The Tea Caddy dates to the Georgian period during the reign of George III circa 1790.

The painted Georgian Tea Caddy comes complete with a working Bramah lock and tasselled key.

Sycamore is a member of the Maple family, found in Europe. It is light yellow in colour and is often a very clean wood, with a straight, fine grain. The wood is often pippy. However, these pips are usually a very similar colour to the rest of the wood making them hardly visible.

Boxwood “Buxus sempervirens” can be found in Europe, Northwest Africa and Southwest Asia. It is a light cream that turns darker to brown when exposed to light. The trees are very small meaning it is suited to smaller projects like edging or inlay instead of veneers.

Bramah is London’s oldest security company. Established at 124 Piccadilly, London in 1784, and today based in Fitzrovia, London and Romford, Essex. Bramah manufactures Bramah and Rola locks for domestic and commercial applications in the U.K. and overseas. We are Marylebone and Fitzrovia’s foremost Locksmith and Burglar Alarm installer.

Georgian, a period in British history dating from 1714-1837, the Georgian era after the Hanoverian kings George I, George II, George III and George IV.
